Gazprom Marketing and Trading is wholly owned by the investment and holding company Gazprom Germania GmbH. This in turn is a 100% subsidiary of Gazprom Export – the export arm of PAO Gazprom, the world’s largest gas producer.

PAO Gazprom is an open joint stock company, established in 1989 as a successor to the state run gas company. It explores and develops natural gas fields and extracts, processes, transports, stores and refines natural gas. It also supplies energy to domestic and foreign customers.

With entrepreneurial abilities and strong commercial sense, the graduates in our Front Office environment are impossible to miss. The emphasis in our Commercial area is on spotting opportunities and having the market and trading expertise to realise them to the full. That means you’ll need to combine a positive can-do attitude, with a deep-seated interest in business to shine in this area. Show us the beginning of these skills and you’ll never feel limited by the possibilities.

There are a variety of roles within our front office area, which you will experience during a 2-year rotation program and at the end we will work closely with you to find the one that matches your ambitions and brings the best out of your entrepreneurial thinking and commercial expertise. Look on this as a career partnership. We’ll do all we can to match your role and business area preferences, but we’ll also make an in-depth assessment of your skills, attitude and experience. So, if together, we decide that your abilities are better suited to another area, you can change course quickly within the recruitment process.

Skills are everything at Gazprom Marketing and Trading, so we’re relatively open-minded about your degree discipline. The important point is that you’ve shown you can excel in a subject with a high level of problem-solving, numeracy and logic. That means your background is likely to be in Economics, Finance, Business, Mathematics, Engineering or Science.

Who we’re looking for…

Applicants need strong business acumen; excellent financial, analytical, negotiation and presentation skills; and a good understanding of the energy industry. It’s high pressure work and the deadlines are tight, but it’s an exciting, dynamic and rewarding environment.


Role objectives

As the Front Office Digital Trading Graduate, you will be a member of the Digital Trading Desk, collaborating to research, develop, implement and maintain systematic trading strategies which are aligned with the overall technical strategy of GM&T.

You will be a customer focused, team player with the drive to work hard to develop both their technical skills and business understanding. You will need to balance the need for precision, accuracy and stability on one hand, with the need to move quickly to capitalise on business opportunities on the other.

Brief overview of the team:

Operating in a Profit generation driven environment, the Digital Trading deliver value on its own systematic strategies but also support the wider Trading business with their commercial objectives. The team is a good balance between commercial knowledge and IT/Computing knowhow all targeting solutions for cross commodity systematic and algorithmic trading strategies.

The team is heavily involved in design, build and maintenance of various trading models but also engage in in trading strategy research. The Digital Trading team works in partnership with the Group IT function to maintain Group wide alignment to minimise risks to the GM&T Group.


Skills & Competencies

Our closely-knit teams are core to our success, working both individually and together to deliver value through solutions tailored for GM&T’s needs. The characteristics that we feel contribute to this are:

  • Must have highly-developed attention to detail
  • Ability to work effectively as part of a team, and alone
  • Able to cope with high pressure situations and in a rapidly growing business
  • Strong organisational and planning skills
  • Ability to foster and build relationships across teams
  • Willingness to learn new skills

Our teams also rely on a solid foundation of knowledge gained through education and experience. We would expect you to have a degree level education in finance, business, engineering, science or a related numerate discipline.

In addition, we seek:

  • Excellent analytical skills and a high attention to detail
  • Experience using common programming languages or a strong interest in coding for data analysis and algorithmic trading (ideally C# and/or Python)
  • A high level of numeracy and computer skills
  • Effective written and verbal communication skills
  • Fluent in English, other European language(s) an advantage
  • Basic knowledge of working in the energy industry desirable.


Training and development:

We are committed to providing all employees with focused training and development opportunities directly relevant to the department’s corporate goals, with specific resources provided for this purpose. Beyond the graduate programs, we run a number of courses in leadership and management skills, core professional knowledge and skills and languages.
