Program: Summer Internship Programme

Role: Tax Technology Internship

Department: Business Tax

At Tilney Smith & Williamson we recruit high calibre people with the skills, knowledge and commitment to meet the demands of the business. Lasting six weeks, our summer internships aim to give undergraduates in their penultimate year a great insight into life at our firm. You’ll be getting involved in the same sort of work as our trainees, which could mean attending meetings with partners, visiting clients, getting involved in research and everything in between. It’s a great opportunity for us to see if you have what it takes to become one of our future business advisors.

What will I be doing?

Our tax technology team advises our clients on the use of technology in tax to meet compliance and reporting requirement or to improve current processes. Our service spans across the full tax spectrum, including robotic process automation, data analytics, tax software implementation, and systems reviews. We also work closely with the professional services practice internally to deliver new technology strategies, contributing to new automated ways in which our colleagues deliver their services. The summer internship programme is a six-week programme designed for penultimate year undergraduate students and is a fantastic opportunity to gain an insight into working at Smith & Williamson.

Your internship will provide you with plenty of opportunities to experience the type of work that our graduates carry out on a day to day basis; you could be attending meetings with partners or assisting with research projects.  There will be a wide variety of work for you to do, and an opportunity for you to be a real part of the department you join.   Some of your duties may include:

  • Assisting on robotic automation projects, acting as business analyst and/or junior
  • Designing dashboard and analytics workflows or script as part of a data analytics project.
  • Assisting in tax system implementations.
  • Preparing technical documentation and project release notes.
  • Participate in internal and external tax technology presentations and webinars.
  • Acquiring and building relationships with your own clients

To be successful in this role you will:

  • Be able to deliver first class client service and work effectively as part of a team
  • Demonstrate an ability to communicate clearly both verbally and in writing
  • Have a high level of general commercial awareness

Academic requirements:

  • Open to penultimate year University students
  • Must be on course for at least a predicted 2:2 honours degree in any discipline. Mathematics, science, and computer science degrees preferred but not essential.
  • 112 UCAS points (or equivalent) in your top three A-levels (excluding General Studies)
  • GCSE English Language and Maths (or equivalent) at a minimum of grade 5
