BARINGS

An integrated team of 20 seasoned portfolio managers, analysts and traders analyses the sovereign debt of over 90 countries and the corporate debt of over 1000 companies.
INTERNSHIP TOPIC
The emerging markets sovereign debt team is looking for a graduate student for the summer of 2023 EMD Fellowship to be based in Boston or London to work on the following topic: Income Inequality and Long-term GDP Growth.
The main objective of the summer fellowship is to explore the relationship between income equality and sources of growth in developing countries. Questions to be addressed include: Have more unequal societies grown faster or slower? Is the starting condition of inequality one that promotes growth or envy? Are the dynamics of inequality, rising or slowing over time, factors that contribute or detract from growth? Can the concept of “fair income” distribution be defined through time as social priorities have evolved in the past century or so? Is there a measure for economic (not income) inequality that can be track through time to assess whether it has been rising or falling? Can that measure be correlated or explained by technology? Does the marginal theory of pricing create inequality if there are positive technological shocks?
SKILLS
The candidate should have extensive training in macroeconomics and specialized understanding of inequality as an economic phenomenon. Knowledge of the literature in emerging markets and of relevant databases would be a plus.
PROCESS
Only graduate applicants will be considered. Deadline for application is Friday, February 24th, 2023. Shortlisted applicants will be contacted shortly after deadline and interviews will be held mid-March.
