BARINGS
Barings’ dedicated Emerging Markets Debt team manages over $15 billion in assets across corporates, sovereign, local debt and blended strategies. An integrated team of 20 seasoned portfolio managers, analysts and traders analyses the sovereign debt of over 90 countries and the corporate debt of over 1000 companies.

INTERNSHIP TOPIC
The Emerging Markets Sovereign Debt team is looking for a graduate student for the summer of 2023 EMD Fellowship to be based in Boston or London to work on the following topic: Sovereign Bond Prospectuses: Red Flags.

The main objective of the summer research fellowship is to explore the sovereign bond documentation of securities in which the team invests, and help the team identify the main legal risks in those bonds. In particular, the summer fellow will carry out a legal review of existing holdings, highlight the main features and risks of those instruments and ultimately create a Legal Risks Sovereign Bond Scorecard that the team will use at every bond issuance to assess the legal risks associated with the new instrument. The fellow will work closely with the investment team as well as other colleagues internally in the Operations, Legal and Compliance teams. The fellow’s work will have direct investment implications for the team.

SKILLS
The candidate should have good knowledge of and interest in securities law, experience with collective action clauses language, able to identify key wording and specialize in the understanding of legal discloser documents. Interest in sovereign debt is a plus. Being autonomous, proactive, and attentive to detail will be key qualities for this fellowship.

PROCESS
Only graduate applicants will be considered. Deadline for application is Friday, February 24th, 2023. Shortlisted applicants will be contacted shortly after deadline and interviews will be held mid-March.

Barings is an Equal Employment Opportunity employer; Minority/Female/Age/Sexual Orientation/Gender Identity/Individual with Disability/Protected Veteran. We welcome all persons to apply.
