Your role at a glance

Legal and General Capital (LGC) seeks opportunities to deploy capital in sectors where there is a lack of investment to support society’s needs. LGC invests in sectors such as housing, specialist commercial property, clean energy and SME Finance and is an exciting, growing and evolving part of the L&G Group.

LGC are currently looking for summer interns who will support our Urban Regeneration, Clean Energy and Suburban Build to Rent teams in a variety of tasks over our 8-week program. If you are an undergraduate, looking for a challenging internship from July until August, which will develop your commercial acumen, whilst giving you an insight into our Build Back Better approach, this could be the internship for you.

What you’ll be doing

You will be assigned to one of the aforementioned teams for your 8-week placement which will be throughout July and August. You will also take part in an induction week designed to introduce you to L&G and help prepare you for the remainder of the internship. Over the course of the internship you will have the chance to interact with different teams, hear from senior speakers and network with your fellow interns.

Some of the day to day activities could include:

  • Performing research and due diligence tasks to support decision making
  • Collating information for reporting
  • Preparing PowerPoint presentations for meetings
  • Liaising with key stakeholders and improving team processes with fresh perspectives and ideas
  • Most importantly you will be learning new skills and gaining knowledge of how our business works!

What we’re looking for

Our ideal candidate will:

  • Be a penultimate-year student on track for a 2:1 degree in a relevant subject
  • Have a strong interest in sustainability and be passionate about inclusive capitalism and LGC’s purpose
  • Be willing to learn, inquisitive and a critical thinker as well as proactive, enthusiastic, organised and methodical
  • Possess strong Microsoft Excel skills, and be comfortable using PowerPoint and Word.
  • Be friendly, approachable and comfortable collaborating with colleagues and stakeholders

About the business area

As part of this program you will be placed with one of the below teams;

Urban Regeneration

The Urban Regeneration (UR) teams’ purpose is to invest Group capital into improving the built environment in cities that have seen relatively low recent investment, including supporting the government’s “Build Back Better” and “Levelling Up” initiatives. The UR team has investments in various properties (including office, residential, retail, media and science) in cities across the UK (such as Manchester, Cardiff and Oxford).

Clean Energy

The Clean Energy (CE) teams’ purpose is to invest Group capital into decarbonising the UK’s energy infrastructure and developing new technologies to address and accelerate the transition to a net zero carbon economy. The CE team has investments in wind, solar and battery infrastructure as well as next generation solar, ground source heat pump and electric vehicle technology companies amongst others.

Build to Rent Business (Real Estate)

A newly launched residential housing arm, Suburban Build to Rent (SBTR), that will create much needed, high quality family homes in areas connected to schools, transport infrastructure and amenities. Our schemes will provide high-quality houses and low-density apartments at scale, designed in a way which reflects new ways of living and working.
