Job Purpose Summary
The programme

As a 2023 Summer intern with MarketAxess, you will grow your skills through on-the-job training and professional development classroom training. You will participate in projects working on problems, providing community service and enjoying social events.
You will be well supported, receiving regular feedback from your manager to aid your professional development and will have a dedicated buddy. Our summer internship programme offers the opportunity to build new skills, grow your professional network and provides an in-depth insight into career possibilities at MarketAxess.
Settlements and Middle Office ensure transactions undertaken with our clients achieve settlement finality – assets and cash traded have transferred between buyer and seller. You will work alongside experienced Operations professionals to gain an understanding of the Fixed Income, post-trading market structure and how it supports the MarketAxess services and our clients.
You will learn how to identify and resolve risk exception items, how we interact with our clients to resolve exceptions, and how we work together across the organisation to solve problems in a timely manner. We will encourage you to highlight ways that we can improve our processes. Being inquisitive and determined about tackling the source of a problem and stopping it from occurring again is a key behaviour we encourage and will look for in each candidate. Specific role responsibilities include;
Prematching and Settlement Activities for Fixed Income Instruments in DTC and Euroclear
Ability to work in a deadline sensitive environment while maintaining good risk assessment and escalation awareness
Strong analytical skills and an ability to calmly comprehend and resolve complex problems

Comfortable working with numbers
And, in addition:
You will be a penultimate year student (graduating in 2024)
You are on track for a 2:1 or above (or equivalent)
Right to Work in UK
Competence in any additional European languages will be well welcomed
MS Office Competency, specifically Excel
