Job Description Summary

LBCM has some unique characteristics as a UK Financial Markets specialist, an international lender and a customer-centric Islands bank, operating across the UK, Europe, North America and Asia.

We’re looking for individuals with potential, who have an appetite to learn, actively seek new challenges and are keen to apply the new skills they have learned. You don’t need to have any specific banking experience for this role as we’ll help you get up to speed quickly within a supportive environment.

Job Description

What you’ll do:

You’ll join either the Financial Markets, Capital Markets or Chief Operating Office team with a dedicated line manager.

Please be aware that the Financial Markets and Capital Markets opportunities are London based only.

Financial Markets (London based role):

Financial Markets is a crucial part of LBCM, providing key access to the international and financial  markets through our trading and sales desks. We support our clients in managing trading risk, raising capital and diversifying investments.

A key focus for our team is about working with clients, who include other banks, large corporations and governments while building lasting relationships. We also analyse data, gather information and understand the market to be able to trade effectively

You’ll learn about the day-to-day activities that allow us to support our clients and gain an understanding of the general markets alongside the products LBCM offer.

Capital Markets (London based role):

Capital Markets is a core business unit to LBCM, supporting clients with their debt and risk management needs. Through lending, bond and derivative products we support clients to access a range of funding options to achieve their goals.

Our teams work closely with our clients who include large Corporate business as well as Banks, Insurance Companies and Asset Managers to build lasting relationships.  We analyse data, gather market information and understand our client’s needs to best support them with their financing options.

Chief Operating Office (London & Birmingham based roles):

Working in LBCM Chief Operating Office (COO) provides a good grounding and insight in the operational apparatus of a bank and what makes us tick. It touches on almost every aspect of the business from what is happening on the trading floor to how we facilitate support of the business to the Executive Office.  We ensure the operational robustness whilst assimilating and dynamically responding to growth and change.

For someone who wants to get a real feel for what it is like to work in the world of Finance, there is no better place to start your journey than the COO.  It has diversity and complexity for those who are curious and committed and will draw out / develop your critical analytical skills, combined with strong communication and adaptability in dealing with a range of tasks.

About the programme:

Starting in September 2022, the Lloyds Bank Corporate Markets (LBCM) School Leaver Apprenticeship will provide fulfilling career opportunities for curious and solution-focused individuals across our UK Markets business and Chief Operating Office.

You’ll gain an experience which will enable you to discover how our business operates to strengthen your development for the future.

We’ll support your study towards a Level 6 – Financial Services Professional apprenticeship. This apprentice scheme will last for 36 months, during which time you’ll gain a degree level qualification, the Chartered Banker Advanced Diploma in Banking and Leadership in a digital age.

Financial Markets and Capital Markets apprentices will additionally gain the Chartered Institute of Securities and Banking (CISI) qualification.

What you’ll learn:

As part of this role, you’ll learn to…

    • Tackle new challenges with enthusiasm and energy, working on your own or as part of a team
    • Use your strong numeracy skills to gather information that helps you understand / find a solution to a problem
    • Use your tech-savvy to understand and analyse data to guide decision making
    • Plan and prioritise your work to meet deadlines
    • Understand the importance of establishing and maintaining positive relationships with key contacts to build a network
    • Recognise the importance of listening and adapting your communication style to your audience
    • Share your ideas and points of view to gain the support and commitment of others, while recognising when compromise is necessary

What you’ll have:

    • Grade C or above in at least five GCSEs including English and Mathematics
    • Minimum of 104 UCAS points, or equivalent

Please note – these can include predicted grades.

What you’ll get in return:

We’ll offer you a competitive salary, with bonus opportunities.

Starting salary from:

    • Birmingham – £22,950
    • London – £29,835
